See All ReviewsFalse Online Advertising! We went after work on a week day, specifically to try the Happy Hour menu (2-5pm) which we read about online. We arrived around 3:30pm and, despite the lunch menu provided on the table, no Happy Hour menu was even offered to us. So we had to ask the server for one, and it was only then brought to us. We had read online before going that the Happy Hour menu offered Golden Palace egg rolls - 8 pieces for $9.00 (as of today, it still says this online!). When we read the in-house restaurant menu, it said 4 pieces. We questioned our server, who confirmed the Happy Hour portion was currently only 4 pieces, but used to be more. I said, although not her fault, the online menu indicates 8 pieces, that's what we expected. Well, too bad for us, we only got 4 pieces (essentially 2 full egg rolls) for $9. Totally false advertising. Good thing we even knew a Happy Hour menu existed, since it appeared they tried to hide that too. We enjoyed the food we did get, including the egg rolls. The atmosphere is really nice, and the service was just plain standard. Would I go back? Sure, if I'm in the area, and now only for Happy Hour deals after our poor experience with the establishment. But Customers Beware, they may not automatically provide you with the Happy Hour menu, and the online menu does NOT reflect what you're actually offered in person. Sooo many other amazing options on Elgin Street in Ottawa.
Lunch here was just ok. There was nothing really wrong with it but I wouldn't rush back. Poke bowls were uninspiring and the dressing was forgotten on one of them. My Salad Nicoise was reasonable although, mystifyingly, only one of the hard-boiled egg halves had a yolk in it. Dressing was so-so. Egg rolls from the Golden Palace are better if you have them at the Golden Palace, but they weren't bad. Service was friendly and prompt. Atmosphere was quiet and comfortable.
Came in for breakfast and ordered the pancakes with berries. After a long leisurely wait that gave me time to reflect on my life choices, the pancakes arrived looking quite nice and tasting good. The berries, however, consisted of half a strawberry, cut in two. A bold interpretation of the plural.
